Who is behind Big Sarge Stitches?
Ashley enlisted in the Nebraska Army National Guard on February 17th, 2005 when she was 17 years old. Her mother, Jackie, required a lot of convincing, but was eventually swayed to sign the age waiver by Retired CSM Robert West Jr., a close family friend who would continue to create a huge impact on Ashley's military career.
She attended basic training at Fork Jackson, South Carolina her junior summer of high school. Upon completion of basic training, Ashley returned home to finish high school and graduated in 2006. Once graduated, she immediately attended AIT to become a 92Y, Unit Supply Specialist, at Fort Lee, Virginia.
Once AIT was complete, she was deployed to LSA Anaconda, Balad, Iraq with HHC 734th Support Battalion.
After leaving Iraq, Ashley returned stateside for a number of years.
In 2012, Ashley was deployed to Camp Bondsteel, Prishtina, Kosovo with HHC 1/376th Aviation Battalion.
In 2018, she was given the opportunity to take an ADOS (Active Duty Operational Support) position and individually mobilize to the Southern Border and work with Border Patrol at Tucson Station.
In 2021, she was asked to return to HHC 1/376th and reclass to a 15P, Flight Operations Sergeant, prior to mobilizing to Fort Bliss, Texas to assist in the Aviation Southern Border Mission, where she was given the moniker "Big Sarge" by her soldiers.
While demobilizing at Fort Hood, Texas, Ashley connected with her future wife, Madeline, and eventually Ashley moved to Texas where she continued serving in the Texas National Guard.
Ashley's unit, HHC 111th Engineer Battalion, activated three times for Winter Weather across Texas.
Ashley retired on March 30th, 2025 after 20 years of dedicated military service.
Since retirement, Ashley has kept throwing around ideas about what she wants to do now, and of course, in true GWOT veteran fashion, she thought she would try to start a clothing and lifestyle line because a coffee company just seemed like a lot more work and less fun. Ashley will also be making shirts to raise funds and awareness for PTSD, shelters for homeless veterans, and many more causes that go to actually assisting the people that need it the most. She wants to be able to be creative without actually being the face or being directly in any spotlight. This is where Sarge needed to step in. Who better than your best friend to be the face of your company, while not being too overbearing?
Who is "The Real" Sarge?
In 2016 Ashley was struggling with depression and a friend, Sally, thought that a new Australian Shepperd puppy might be just the thing she needed. After thinking about it for a few days, Ashley went to choose her pup but Sally's daughter said she had "just the little girl for you!" This is how Sarge joined the family. Sarge has been a huge staple in Ashley's life and has been there during some of the hardest moments. She is an emotional support animal and has proven to be the best choice in best friends.
She is the spirit of our brand.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support and patronage of our brand and please help us continue to bring smiles to faces and a little pick me up to any veterans' day.
